This is not going to be a comprehensive review where I go into every single detail about this drone this is going to be more of the average of my perspective on what I thought and how I enjoyed using this drone.
So really I just want to highlight some of the cool features that I found in this drone and kind of give you my overall experience about this DJI phantom standard which is DJI’s prosumer level quadcopters.
They’re not quite consumer level but they’re not quite pro level they kind of fill in that gap somewhere in between and at a price point, it is significantly cheaper than some of the pro level drones that you’ll see in this list. The phantom series of drones has become somewhat of an industry standard and they provide what many would consider the best bang for buck when it comes to drone quality.
Now this has an RTF (ready to fly) designation which means out of the box it’s ready to fly it comes with everything you’ll need to get up in the air within literally just a matter of minutes. So you get a drone the controller and my opinion something that’s quite incredible which is a 2.7 K camera which takes great pictures and video. Now magic part of the camera is that it comes with an integrated 2 access gimbal which serves a couple of functions.
1) The gimbal allows you to have motorized control of the camera
2) It also provides an enormous stability while taking video and pictures
Now the camera sends a signal back to your controller which then can be paired with your iPhone or Android phone to provide a live feed of whatever’s happening or taking place on camera so you can kind of see that demonstrated here in real time and it provides virtually zero latency as far as the picture is concerned.
So being able to see what your camera sees obviously helps you compose your shots and video it also helps for flight modes so you can see things in flight that might be harder to see from the ground. Now keep in mind for around 700 bucks that sounds like a lot but you’re getting a drone, a controller and this camera, I mean I would have to pay probably five or six hundred Dollars just to get a camera and gimbal.
So that’s super impressive that DJI can provide us with the camera of this quality on a drone of this quality at this price point, If the drone loses GPS acquisition or runs into any sort of problems it will return back to that home point.
Long story short it is the best drone under $500.
