Best Drones for Beginners Buying Guide

3.8 out of 5 stars (3.8 / 5)

Syma X5C 4 Channel 2.4GHz RC Explorers Quad Copter w/ Camera

For drones under 100 you just can’t beat it, there are only two things I would change.

  1. The transmitter control range is relatively short and if you want to convert it fpv such to get some more distance out of it.
  2. The other thing I didn’t care for was that it only has auto-level mode there is no rate mode, of course, no toy Quadcopter that I know of actually has a rate mode so maybe I shouldn’t count on it but everything else about this vehicle is excellent.

Indoor & Out Door Drone Performance

I can’t tell enough about how well this thing performs indoor and outdoor this small drone can be flown in just about everything except high wind gusts.
it does great the other great thing is extremely durable this vehicle probably has two hundred flights on it and at least a hundred fifty hard crashes whether it ended up tumbling down the stairs of my warehouse or smashing into a corner.

Sturdy Drone

The prop guards are extremely durable they definitely take a crash I’ve never replaced the prop despite thing coming with spares.
Another great thing about this drone is multiple flight mode as both low rates and high rates the low rates are great for flying indoors and for tight spaces for outdoors high rates are awesome.

You fly high rates indoors but you’re going to find that the drone gets to the other end of the house or the building very very quickly so if you want to fly sensitive thumbs it works but friend or you’re probably going to want low rates another great thing is this has the auto flip switch hit the button press one side the vehicle flips over and recovers the great thing about this is it seems extremely stable.

One problem with this drones often happens when you reduce the throttle of the quadcopter/drone begins to fall if you suddenly kick on the throttle attempt to recover often wobbles often out of control and we’ll still crash, this doesn’t do that it simply snaps upright recovers and keeps ongoing.

it’s extremely controlled and it’s a lot of fun for a beginner and intermediate or even advanced pot you just want to trash a vehicle million won’t break I would say the Syma is a value at twice the price so you’re looking for a cheap drones with camera just to knock around with, this has my highest recommendation.

Regains control rather quickly this is absolutely incredible for a toy drone, it’s a lot of fun I hope you enjoyed this review of the Syma X5C, go crazy and keep them flying making this one of the best best drones for beginners.

Force1 Drone with Video Camera 720p

Force 1 Drone let’s look this RC UFO designed drones in depth.

Some Great Features

  • Low voltage warning
  • Six-axis gyro HD video camera the resolution is 1280 x 720
  • HD video camera the resolution is 1280 x 720The frameRate is 30 FPS
  • The frame rate is 30 FPS Plus charges by USB.
  • Plus charges by USB.

Its controller looks like a four-channel controller with superb performance, with low voltage warning feature.
You get your four blades already but you have an extra four blades white and black blade so that matches up to those existing blades there so you get a replacement set.

You get a screwdriver in extras for fixing up blades & opening up controller from the back and all that.

You get your 2GB micro USB card reader which goes into a USB port, and then there is a USB charger you get two batteries along with it.

This beginner drone has got so flexible plastic frame, this is flexible looks like the gears you can actually see the gears that spin each blade.
It has got an updated camera it also includes a power bank which I think is interesting and also has the ability,  if the drone happens to get lost in you can press a button and it will turn back to home.

Now the newest thing I recognize as it has got some landing fixed gear which is basically whenever the drone falls it’s gonna be protected.

A power bank that is included which I thought was definitely unique and interesting

This is a nice stable easy beginner drone can be great for anybody really of all ages I wouldn’t recommend for any younger than 10.

So besides that I definitely recommend it, I wish to include more batteries you can pick them up so we can get extra flying time a little bit more.

Force1 U45W Blue Jay Drone

Now we have UD45 WQ Blue Jay Drone in the list for beginner’s drones.
The UDI blue jay is a small beginner type drone with what looks like a pretty decent camera.

I will do my best to be unbiased in this review this little drone is about the same size as a Syma x5c it is very lightweight probably a hollow body it uses brushed motors.
It has a little camera on it, does have an app that you can download and the remote control is similar to a lot of the toy drones. That you see but a couple things that I like about it

That you see but a couple of things that I like about it

  1. First of all, the color scheme is pretty cool.
  2. I really like the fact this remote has actual markings on the button when buttons are unmarked on these things and so you don’t really know which is which and flying so many different drones it’s hard to keep track and a nice feature for beginners.

Battery

This beginner drone has got little 1 battery & it’s a 3.7 volt 500 mAh battery.
It has got a standard connector and the nice thing about this little standard connector is this actually is one that can be used with the Syma x5c.

UDI Blue Jay also has an app that you can download from for iOS or Android there’s a QR code included.

So one other thing that I do like about this guy is that the battery door does not have a screw-on it so it’s easy to take open and close without using a screwdriver.

And then also a very useful thing is it actually has an on/off switch and I’m always a big fan of the on/off switch because when you plug the battery and a lot of them don’t have on/off switch it just automatically.

You also get a barometer in it so it actually has an air pressure that it uses for keeping it at the same height so altitude holds basically using a barometer it’s not the best but it works better than not having it all making this one of the best drones for beginners.

Mobile Application

It’s IOS & Android App is called “flying see”. With that, you can see live video & take photos etc.

Now a good option we have got here in this beginners drone is the camera can be tilted and so if you don’t feel like the angle is very good you can change the tilt of the camera. it does not have GPS and you need to practice a little big outdoor place if it is your first time.

It might be a really good beginner drone and a cheap beginner drone for somebody who wanted to shoot some decent looking video.

You would be able to get some better video or if you somehow adjust the camera.

Holy Stone F181 RC Quadcopter Drone

This awesome F 181 series 2.4 gigahertz drone from holy stone, what is included in the package is
1. 2 batteries

  • 2 charging cables the
  • Drone itself
  • 4 extra propellers
  • 4 propeller guards
  •  2 landing gears
  • A camera for recording your flying footage
  • 2-gigabyte microSD card for video and photos
  • A screwdriver in case you need to open it up and change the motors.

It is very easy to set up the drone for your first flight first make sure your battery is connected if not then just plug it into the cable inside close the cap tightly.

The remote control is pretty straightforward just need some practice before you try to operate it make sure you have 4 double-A batteries.

I know it is a lot of batteries but at least you don’t have to charge this thing I’m really glad that shows batteries overcharging you have a little display on the remote controller
On the drone controller, it tells us the signal strength the further the drone gets the less signal you have on the remote screen a little light bulb that tells you that your own lighting is on or off the battery status of the drone in the middle is where you see the speed percentage.

You can do 350 degree flips with the button option on the remote controller as well.
2 GB micro sd card is enough for your video & photography. Camera resolution is 1280 x 720 at 30 GPS pretty surprising.

It’s not the smoothest camera but pretty good for fun you also get some vibration from the drone when you’re flying at high altitude.

Pretty good all over and Holystone also got different drones if you’re not interested in this particular one but I recommend this one as a beginner.

Hubsan X4 Quadcopter/ Drone

Here we have in the list the Hubsan X4 now if you are a beginning pilot who is interested in learning how to fly remote control airplanes or helicopters, I can highly recommend taking this 40$ to purchase this little drone.

It is a ton of fun and easy to fly or perhaps you are a seasoned pilot and we know that pretty soon inclement weather is going to be coming on and we’re going to be bored to death so if you want to have a little bit of fun while we’re waiting for the weather to get better this is also a neat little aircraft that you can buy and fly indoors.

What I like about this little drone and if you are a beginning person also give you some information to help you fly it a little bit better and get your money’s worth.

Let’s take a look at the Hubsan x4 in depth
Ok although I’m a die-hard blade thing. One of the first thing that attracted me to the x4 was the price.

Equally, weight is so important here, X4 for that it has a little bit of weight to it which makes it a great indoors as well as an outdoor drone making this one of the best drones for beginners.

Battery

Another factor that made me decide on the X4 the battery capacity the one that comes with the Nano 2x has 150 mAh battery capacity, however, the Hubsan x4 starts off with 204 mAh capacity but you can upgrade to 380 mAh.

A good feature about Hubsan X4 is that it has navigational lights, red is the back and blue is the front and you’re very visible at night too.

Another nice feature about Hubsan X4 is that it has navigational lights, red is the back and blue is the front and you’re very visible at night too.

While the best feature about the Hubsan x4 is that when the batteries do come to running down the lights will flash and that will give you a warning that is time to land your X4.

Before I conclude my discussion on batteries I want to also suggest that you invest in the 5x cable charger, you do get a charging cable with the Hubsan X4 but it can only charge one battery at a time, whereas with the cable you can charge five.

The average charging time will be about 30 to 50 minutes.
And the good news is basically there are no repairs to expect. However, I do caution you to always inspect the quadcopter after a heavy crash.

  • To see if the blades are not coming off.
  • And that one of the arms on the X4 is not separated.

The X4 has a unique feature in the fact that his legs little tiny space between them to have to sustain the impact of the severe crash.

Ok although the x4 is a small squad here’s an idea of where to set your flight time, using the regular battery about 6 minutes and using 380 mAh battery.
I fly it nine minutes although I’ve got 10 and 11 minutes out of the batteries so enjoy the Hubsan x4 it’s a perfect little quadcopter/drone.

BLADE Nano QX Drone

Reviewing beginners drones and not including Blade’s Nano QX is not justice.

Absolutely tiny Blade Nano QX quadcopter, the nano QX is available in two different forms the ready to fly version which includes everything to get started, you don’t need anything they provide a transmitter with it a battery and the Quadcopter itself a few spare propellers so that’s great that gets you right out the door without any additional equipment.

If you already own a spectrum transmitter they sell a bind and fly version which doesn’t come with this transmitter and you can bind this model to that transmitter that you already own so it’s great for spectrum owners people who already own spectrum products and just want to fly the quad it reduces the cost a bit and you can get a better radio system.

FPV Version

Blade also sells an fpv version which has a built-in fpv camera and transmitter it’s a great product and if you’re looking to get into fpv that’s a great way to start. The craft weighs in at a mere 16 grams and measures about 4 inches from the motor to motor this is by far one of the smallest and lightest drones I’ve ever flown.

The quad is powered by these absolutely tiny 2-inch props mounted on equally tiny brushed motors, the whole assembly here is protected at each end by these prop guards which is really helpful for when you bump into things especially when you fly indoors and trust me you will bump into stuff.

It has a little bit of a spring to it and will absorb the impact, I really feel that the weight and the prop guards on the Quad are a very attractive feature they really take the fear out of flying and this is great for people who are starting out and most of the people who are going to end up buying this quad are people starting out, it’s a great investment it takes the fear out of flying it takes the fear of crashing and helps you learn and it also prevents you from damaging things in your house like computer screens TV screens when you do happen to crash into something or even scratch up your wall for example.

Flight Modes

Under the hood the nano QX is equipped with horizon hobbies extremely popular safe system now the safe system has two major flight modes

  1. The stability mode now the stability mode is great for people who are starting out in this mode the flight controller restricts how much you can pitch and roll so it makes for much smoother calmer flight especially when you’re starting out, when you’re in the stability mode the LED on the quadcopter burns a solid blue.
  2. Agility mode, the agility mode, on the other hand, takes away a lot of those training wheels or controls or how much you can pitch and roll in this mode it doesn’t control anything you’re pretty much on your own and it’s better suited for people who are more proficient in flying multi-rotors.

You’ll get there but you want to start out in the stability mode and then slowly work your way up to the agility mode and when you’re in the agility mode you’ll see that the LED on the craft is red, so pay attention to the color of the LEDs blue is stability red is agility.

Rates For Speed

You also have the option to choose between two different rates now when I say rates what it means is the speed at which it can roll or pitch so in high rates you can actually pitch or roll much faster in low rates you can pitch or roll but slower so if you start at the low rates the advantages you get much better control over your aircraft and you can understand your aircraft much better control it not be so afraid of crashing.

Light characteristics on the drone are extremely impressive, the quad flies much smoother than a whole lot of quads we’ve tested it is very easy to fly it maintains an extremely stable hover especially in the stability mode you can do flips & all that and it’s very agile when you need it to be so you can actually switch it into the high rate mode and go do a lot of high-speed flying.

Now as I mentioned earlier this is an indoor quad don’t try to fly it outdoors it will not handle even the slightest of wind you will lose your quad to the wind, so make sure the fly indoors it’s a lot of fun indoors it’s built to be flown indoors and you shouldn’t be flying it outdoors.

Transmitter

Now the transmitter that does come with the ready to fly kit is decent it’s very ergonomic very easy to hold quite light and the sticks are decent, not perfect the decent I’ve seen much worse it’s actually very useful especially for this quad however if you do own a spectrum radio already I really wouldn’t recommend getting this stick to your spectrum radio and bind it to the Nano QX you’ll have a lot of fun you’ll save yourself a little bit of money and you’ll get a much better radio.

If you’re starting out in this hobby and you don’t own a spectrum transmitter we highly recommend getting the ready to fly kit you won’t regret it it’s very easy to use.

Flight Time

This tiny quad is powered by an even tinier battery it’s a 1x 150 mAh battery now you will get about 7 to 8 minutes of flight time depending on how aggressively you fly it, however, it’s a good idea to get spare batteries just so you can go out and fly and have a little bit of fun.

I definitely recommend this to anyone who’s looking to get into the world of multi-rotors or drones as this is one of the best drones for beginners.
